Database of the Classical heritage in Czech art and architecture | ||||||||||
The aim of the long-term project „Classical tradition in art and architecture“ is to map Greco-Roman heritage in the Czech lands from the beginning up to present. Its result is a textual and pictorial database which will provide full documentation and analysis of works of art created in (or for) Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia and inspired by classical tradition.
Czech lands were always part of a greater political unit, and that is why we plan also to create databases of similar monuments in the neighbouring countries. We would like, for instance, to compare art and architecture in Prague of the 19th and 20th centuries with other capital cities of the former Austrian empire, above all Wien, Budapest, and Bratislava. The monuments of Budapest were already documented by Nina Bažantová. The project was realized thanks to the support of the Institute of Philosophy and the Grant Agency of the Academy of science of the Czech Republic (projects 96202, A9062601, and IAA8062101). In 2008 were added selected works of the 20th century art (Iva Havlíková, the Grant Agency of the Charles University, project 3125/2008). In 2009-2013 Jan Bažant will add works of art from the 17th and 18th centuries thanks to the support of the Grant Agency of the Academy of science of the Czech Republic (project IA A800090902). Nina Bažantová will add works of art from previous and subsequent centuries. The full English version of the database will be published before 2013. The software of the database was created by the company Lanius which provides the technical support, in collaboration with Alena Sarkisian and Jiří Žůrek. |
